Early Bird Plus is aimed at parents and carers of autistic children aged five and under nine. The programme combines the supportive dynamic of group sessions with the individualised, one-to-one support of home visits*.
The Early Bird Plus programme consists of eight sessions, each of which are 2.5 hours in length, and two home visits*. Programmes are run for up to six families at a time. Each family is allocated three places on the Early Bird programme: two for parents or carers and one for an accompanying professional.
Every session of the programme includes discussion and participation during which parents are encouraged to consider how the techniques and strategies discussed could be used to support their child.
Topics covered include:
- understanding autism
- understanding and supporting sensory differences
- supporting and developing interaction
- socialisation and self-awareness
- understanding and interpreting behaviour
- supporting behaviour
- moving forward
- home visits* – opportunity to individualise and discuss the information covered within programme.
All families and their supporting professional will be provided with a copy of the Early Bird Plus Parent Book which supports each of the group sessions.
The Early Bird Plus programme aims to increase parental understanding of well-researched and recognised autism best practice in order to empower them and develop their resilience
Please note we are not doing sessions in person at the moment, due to the coronavirus situation. Our training programmes are now delivered online via Zoom, so come and join us!
